For sure. The day after back to back climbing or multipul hard training days is easily a 3000+ calorie day.

I get REAL hungry after any excercise! Some evenings after work I will eat a full dinner (twice as much as my fiance) then an hour later its back for a few bowls of cereal, then I get a bowl of ice cream, a little later its a bag of popcorn all topped off with some last min peanut butter and crackers all washed down with iced tea...

I eat like this almost every day, and I still weigh maybe 150lbs soaking wet

I also find that if I dont eat like this on a regular basis I get cranky, and lazy.

does anyone else have late nite binges like myself?? It's probably not good eating all that crap before I go to bed huh?

I read in a cycling magazine a while back that gorging after an exhausting activity was
not a good thing and that laying off trains the body to use calories more efficiently. This might be
more applicable to road racing where riders go for long periods of time without food. Does this have any relevance to climbing? I don't really eat too much all day climbing either.

I agree but still find I am starving 1 - 2 hours later if working hard. Best solution I found is MEAT - proven sustained release. Go Mingua Bros!

Can also easily polish off half a loaded Miguel's after a day of climbing, more than a normal meal for me.

I know swimmers are told to eat a small serving of protein ~10g every 1 - 2 hours, but they are eating 4000 - 6000 cal a day while training!

Now I'm hungry again.

Cheddar Rice Cakes, they feel you up when your starving they aren't that bad for you, and they taste awesome!

I eat a a lot too. I feel less hungry longer, after climbing if I have a meal that hits all the main food groups. Usually something like pasta w/ lots of meat and cheese toped of with a salad and a few stout beers. Don't forget the beer, it helps!

I was really hungry yesterday from my rough weekend of computing. I ate a couple donuts to ease the pain.

Here's an odd bit of info: according to this guy Dan Buettner, who wrote The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer from the People Who Lived the Longest, you'll live longer if you 20% less food at every meal. Also, excessive exercise is NOT a predictor for longevity, but moderate exercise combined with eating in moderation IS a predictor for longevity.

If this is true, I wonder if excessive exercise coupled with eating a ton of food will increase the speed of your metabolism; and if a faster metabolism makes you live a shorter life? Food for thought. :lol:

BTW, a "blue zone" is a small geographical area where there are more people who live past 100 than in other areas. There are several blue zones in the world, including Okinawa, Japan and Sardinia, Italy.
