As some of you know, frzsnow and I are getting married at Miguel's this coming Monday and that we just finished packing up all of our stuff to move to Colorado after the wedding. So when we packed we made sure one car was easily accessible with all of the wedding necessities in it, including the main box which had her dress, my wedding atire, the gifts for everyone, old climbing books to be donated to RRO, some extra climbing harnesses and brand new quickdraws with the tags still on them. Oh, and a gallon of Honduran Rum.
I don't know if Hondurans use a cheaper bottle than we do, but that bastard overheated while in the backseat and exploded, dumping the whole gallon into the box. Fortunately her dress was triple baggied and didn't get anything on it. My clothes on the other hand took the brunt of it, soaking my pants and shirt. It ruined most of the books, soaked all the presents which had to be unwrapped and cleaned, and drenched the harnesses, quickdraws, and especially a chalk bag (brand new, no chalk in it fortunately). All of this happened just as we were leaving, causing a slight delay, but most of it seems to be undercontrol now with minimal calateral damage. Black Diamond also assures me that Rum will not weaken the integrity of the draws, they just have a perma-smell on them now. Oh goodie.
For a low key, non-stress wedding it sure is trying to be a stressful production and if something as amusing as that can happen on the way back to Miguel's, just imagine what the wedding will be like. For those who know us, I hope to see you guys there. It should be memorable to say the least.

Sweet you guys will perpetually be known as "those climbers" in your new locale! Congrats!
Sucks about the books though. I suspect that the gear will eventually calm down in oder, especially if you leave it out in a well ventilated (no direct sunshine) location.
Can't wait to see y'all on Monday.

I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Ha, that very same thing happend to a 1/5 of woodford that Bart was bringing me in Vedauwoo a couple years ago. It was was major sadness to see that brand new bottle only half full.
Glad the dress is OK, and a little bit of rum on your gear will just give it "charactor"!

I think by nature weddings are not low key or stress free. I hope that exploding rum is the most of your worries, but look at it this way you two now have a good story.haas wrote:For a low key, non-stress wedding it sure is trying to be a stressful production...
So let this be a lesson to all you kids out there, don't leave a bottle of alcohol, an animal, or kid in a hot car.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.
