Does God Exist?

This is one of the best explanations of why God
allows pain and suffering that I have seen. It's an
explanation many people will understand.

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and
his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they
began to have a good conversation. They talked about
so many things and various subjects.

When they eventually touched on the subject of God,
the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists."
"Why do you say that?" asked the customer. "Well,
you just have to go out in the street to realize
that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists,
would there be so many sick people? Would there be
abandoned children? If God existed, there would be
neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving
God who would allow all of these things."

The customer thought for a moment, but didn't
respond because he didn't want to start an argument.
The barber finished his job and the customer left
the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw
a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair
and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt.

The customer turned back and entered the barber shop
again and he said to the barber: "You know what?
Barbers do not exist." "How can you say that?" asked
the surprised barber. "I am here, and I am a barber.
And I just worked on you!" "No!" the customer
exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did,
there would be no people with dirty long hair and
untrimmed beards, like that man outside."

"Ah, but barbers DO exist! What happens is, people
do not come to me."

"Exactly!"- affirmed the customer. "That's the
point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens, is,
people don't go to Him and do not look for Him.
That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the
world."

Oh boy, what lunacy. I guess people with poor cardiovascular systems shouldn't have sex then should they? If you aren't raising your heartrate with your partner and have to use a mistress then you need help in MANY areas. No, I won't be going to Symmantec because I don't think people who don't want to have to think for themselves should have to be burdened with hitting the back button or closing their browser window. Blocking spam and pop-ups is a good thing. Blanket blocks on content are definitely dangerous becuase they never differentiate between what one would call porn/art/literature/educational material/parodies/research/personal stories/medical information/etc. I would rather have access to everything and then be able to exit out of the cow porn and clown torture. Of course, I love good clown torture every once in awhile. One can also see water buffalo porn on National Geographic which is sort of like cow porn, so I guess one really must be careful out there.

I remeber a quote that defined spirituality as :
Giving up the need to be in control
giving up the need to be effective
giving up the need to be right

I amay have cited this last year but it helps me back to the center.
I try to be a good man but all that comes
of trying is I feel more guilty.

I know that you believe that you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

An entertaining story but not a very accurate one.

Job was faithful to God and he went through a world of
hurt.

I don't know about that. It seems like the less contempt I have for the present the more hope I have for the future. When life sucks it makes the future look bleak.
