it sounds like a lot of hassle but it is not that bad. it is all sort of straight forward if you know generally what to do. however the climbing is so good in portrero that i would go even if it it took 8 hours of hassle. it is really good.
i too heard that the columbia bridge is much faster than the one in laredo. if you do take the one in laredo take bridge #2.
