There is a LEAVE NO TRACE sticker right next to the toilet paper roll at the RRO restroom. This is definitely one appropriate usage of the phrase if you want to get literal!

Spragwa,
Just for giggles and grim...try this on for size.
At Eastern Kentucky University there is a class for landscaping. Why doesn't some one on the CC propose to them that they "plan" a reclamation and stabilization of Roadside. I Know that the Prof would be more than enthusiastic to do it. They would more than likely show up with a class to implement their plan too. Call them and check it out.

if you are, PACK IT OUT!

in all seriousness, i think lnt has a lot of good lessons and suggests a lot of interesting things to think about. just because an idea falls short in some respects doesn't mean you should throw it out completely. otherwise, we'd lose every emergency room in the country..

If we had all worked together a million years ago we could have prevented all that nasty erosion and there wouldn't be a Red River Gorge.

ZSpider, so just in case you were serious, let me ask this: do you really think we should just keep doing exactly what we're doing? keep going up there and digging up rocks so we can reach the start holds, and then add a bolt in a few years and up the rating when the start is 5 feet longer and without holds, struggle to enjoy the extra 20 feet of offwidth at the bottom of Roadside Attraction, and just say "who cares, i want to climb now!"?

Do you really think it's the same thing? are you that simple-minded and short-sighted to compare natural erosion to what's happening at the crag?

If it was human erosion that caused the problem wouldn't be of the same ethic to chip new starter holds?
