Camping in Colorado
Camping in Colorado
Stewy911 and I are going to CO in about three weeks. We will probably be climbing in: Clear Creek, the Flatirons, RMNP and Shelf Road. Any camping suggestions? For RMNP we will probably either camp in Estes or bivy at the base of Spearhead.
For Shelf Road you'll pass the campground on the left on the way to the crag.
Not many camping options available near clear creek or Boulder. The closest campground I can think of is on the Peak to Peak just south of Nederland. Hopefully you have a van or something you can sleep in. Just find a parking lot or a side street in Boulder and you'll be fine.

In Estes you will pay out the ass for a campsite. We drove to the Roosevelt Forest for free camping. Its about 15 minutes outside of Estes. Right now the toursit season is booming around those parts and you can gorrila style camp in the hotel parking lots pretty easy. Shelf Road camping is love, cheap and secluded. Be ready to roast @ Shelf. Chase shade and take plenty of water with you, its hard to find around there. For Boulder(Flatirons) camping you can drive to the Nederlands and camp for free. Its an amazing town with awesome single track all over the place. I have a few rope and bouldering guides you can use, stop by the shop and I will hook you up.

It's "guerrilla" not "gorilla". One is a member of a small band of an irregular military force camping out on Estes Park hotel parking lots the other is a higher primate indigenous to central africa...HUGE difference.RRO wrote: you can gorrila style camp in the hotel parking lots pretty easy

I try to be a good man but all that comes
of trying is I feel more guilty.

Breakfast, climbing, biking and other odds and ends I know pretty well. The written language gives me trouble everytime. Really other than location I would say Sco Bro qualifies for gorrila, hairy, smelly with a hunched back. Im sticking with gorrila but thanks for the lesson.
