When a climber says they did a route, what does that mean?

I dunno, but when Big Country used to say "I did Big Country today", I just always figured he had some issues and likely hairy palms.

I think "did" means that they climbed it. This doesn't delve deep into the current desire to label everything and make sure it is quantified. I did a route could mean redpoint, billpoint, pink-point, TR, TR Flash, Hang-dog, Onsight, Beta-Flash, Redpoint with knee-bars, Stick-clipped my way up, etc...

I personally like "I did Rock Wars" this weekend. Who the heck cares what style you did it in.

sport monkeys RULE!

To answer your original question, when I say I "did" a route, that means I got the redpoint/send. If I just monkeyed around on it, I just say "I got on it" or "I went up to take a look at it"; that just translates to "I was probably too busy bitchin and whinin about the temperature or some such nonsense to just grow a pair of balls and get the send".
