Dig, women are okay because of sports bras. Guys get chaffed if they're wearing shirts because the cotton is harsh on the delicate skin.

I use Body Glide to prevent chaffing. I pretty much put it anywhere that rubs a lot (nipples, armpits, upper thighs).

As far as cramps go, I've never gotten one around my collarbone, but I do tend to have problems with my upper back. Apparently, I suck at relaxing my shoulders while I run.

This is one of the main reasons why I don't run.
I usually have tense shoulders anyway and when I run it just gets worse, particularly behind one shoulderblade.
I've tried an elongated arm movement (although I'm sure it was hilarious to watchers b/c I felt like I was an alien of some sort) and that helped somewhat.

Any suggestions on other ways to relax one's upper body while running?

actually it's less the cotton and more the salt crystals that form from drying sweat. the crystals end up forming around there and the cotton helps rub them against the skin and what you end up with is bloody nipples..

And smarty pants, since cotton doesn't wick moisture, they end up with the problem.

why are you guys wearing cotton to run in anyways?

i find that making half fists helps me relax my back...and tightening my abs as I run...

longlegsrule, do shoulder muscle work to strengthen your delts. I found "climbing like a dude" has given me defined arms and shoulders.

I imagine that tightening your abs hinders breathing. relax everything.

pigsteak, Really? Now tell us the truth of which colors you have for sports bras. That's short for "braziers" not "brothers," FYI.

I have nothing but respect for anyone who runs wearing braziers. Are you sure you don't mean brassieres, though?
Oh, yes, just remembered the thread title.
