Another new cliff at the Red is now open to the public.

The Sunbeam Buttress in Muir Valley is now open. There are several sport routes in the 5.9-5.11 range and a few trad/mixed routes. Most of the climbs stay shaded on hot days and there is also a large roof that keeps several routes dry in a downpour. Have fun. :D

Thank you very much!
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

can't wait to get down there again. the crowds have kept me away far too long. how has the crowd been lately anyway?

There has never been a crowd at the cliffs we have been working on. It seems like the most crowded area has been the Great Wall so if you want to avoid the masses then it would probably be better to go to another section of cliff. Hopefully more areas and more climbs will help to disperse the crowds. At least there will be more choices and more open routes... 8)

"Sunbeam" was the first route put up there. We wanted to call it "Moonshine Buttress", but there was already a Moonshiner's Wall. It will be in the Sun during the winter though... One might think that the 15-20 minute approach would keep the crowds down, but people are still coming.

If it is too crowded then just keep walking to the next cliff (and hope that it isn't crowded). If the parking lot holds 50-60 cars and each car has 2-3 climbers then there theoretically could be ~100-180 climbers for >200 routes. Maybe it will be better when there are >400 routes.

As for that zip-line idea... somebody needs to get after Rick to have that installed. A ski lift might be even better!

The ski lift is probably a better idea; getting down isn't the hard part, getting out at the end of the day is!
