Maybe those are the same students who should get their diploma made by 6 year olds.

Wow. I didn't know people actually did that. But with some of your students, it wouldn't surprise me. Kind of explains the difficulty reading the topo maps, too.

it's happened twice. one student didn't do much of anything right on an assignment (calculations and 2-3 sentence answers). after i graded it, she actually asked me why she didn't get any points for making it colorful and pretty. grrr!

In high school, I was in this vicious fight with this chick. She kept writing nasty letters to me so finally I wrote one to her in crayon. At the top, I wrote, "I'm using crayon so you will understand better."

We had a geometry teacher who was such a tool he never noticed when people opened up and used their notes in the middle of the test.

you sure he wasn't pretending not to notice? sometimes teachers who report large numbers of low grades get pressure from higher up to do ...things.

Hmm. He may have been playing us. Never thought of that. He did offer quite a bit of extra credit (around 15-20% of total points as I recall). On the other hand, the class was pretty simple and the test problems came straight off the homework. I guess if you understood it, you were set. If not, it could be tougher. Now you've got me thinking.
