and another thing, why should people brush holds for you if you're not going to brush your tick marks off?

There's no inconsistency - most routes are already caked with chalk with tick marks that don't brush easily. The adventure is already lost to some degree, but you can still help the grip.

I rarely place tickmarks, they are already there. I brush the hell out of holds ... for others.

Consistency. Inconsistency. Doesn't really matter to me. My reasons are selfish - brushed holds help me send and tick marks help me send. Unless I try to crimp a ticked foothold.

ok.. but you get your kicks from sending. other people get their's from an adventure, regardless of the degree of it. so you ask them to help you out by brushing the holds but you won't help them out by brushing the mark or not placing it (note: when i say "you", i don't mean you meadows.. i mean the general "you"). also, you don't buy the arguement that tick marks only take away from the adventure. other people would say brushing doesn't help you send.

do you see what i'm saying?

See the selfish part of my post. Do you really think I give a fuck what any of you people think about tick marks/brushing/stick clips/etc? I am in it for me, and I am totally OK with that.

Well, I hope others will see me as a role model for clean holds.

BTW, did you notice MM's double standard? Tickmarks are okay on certain places like the crimps of Tissue Tiger (i.e. his project), but not elsewhere.

To me this argument is useless. Personally I don’t like tick marks or chalk covered holds. Do I use chalk and have I ever ticked a hold? Of course I have. Why don’t we focus this wasted effort on cleaning the parking lots, trails and the base of the climbs. To me that would make more of an impact. The climbs are chalked, nothing we can do about that. I definitely would support a chalk-cleaning day by donating water and brushes and also ask that people who use tick marks clean them up when they are done. Not cause I think it kills the onsite/flash/beta flash/stoner onsite/topo aided send/hop scotched mark second time flash sheeple labels, excessive tick marks look like shit from the ground. Chalked holds can be an eye sore, but at least they are somewhat consistent in appearance, tick marks just look like graffiti if they are over used/to big and just left.
