IMO If you've climb at the Red long enough you will learn how to read chalk and chalked holds, tick marks will not take away from your onsight attempt..the chalk already has.

Let's pressure wash the crags. It would give everyone that first to climb experience that can't be beat. Wheel an empty plastic tank up to the base. Use tarps to catch rain water and funnel it into the tank. Then use a pressure washer for the rest. Wishful thinking.

yeah! maybe, but a great idea too!
i think it might necessitate a regrading of many routes though.

Tick Marks rule. I remeber when I was tick marking 5.7 routes and still am to this day because its gotta be like the ABC's in order for me to climb. haha
Who Me? I gotta hitch hike god damn 18 miles to get a god damn beer......that's bullshit.

Marathonmedic, What is worse for the environment - chalk or tape?

Also, "Wes' campaign" (I thought it was Sunshine's :? ) is not about brushing the holds to preserve the rock in its natural state (we'll need alien's idea for that). Rather, it's to gain back the friction that chalky holds eliminate. It's to help you send.

Thanks for your consideration of other climbers, but seriously, as Rhunt said, the holds are already chalked up. I guess you can have the adventure of choosing among all chalked holds. It's a Where's Waldo game.

So in effect, the chalked holds make climbing easier by letting you know where to go, but harder because the holds are worse. So it's all the same.

anyone ever feel like using a pencil to dig through cement is easier that talking to some people? this whole thing has become ridiculous and stubborn and proud.

i'm not saying anything one way or the other but just want to mention this to point out an inconsistency:

all this talk about brushing holds for those people coming after you.. why not brush the tick marks off for those same people..? how do you delineate one from the other, brushing holds being "mandatory and ethical" and not brushing tick marks as being, essentially, "not big deal" or "not my problem"?

and we all complain about partisian politics.. i hope we all can laugh at how ridiculous we all are
