humility and self recreating for mental training

Post by KD »

i'm trying something newfor me so this might or might not be right for anyone else. in an effort to be more comfortable on leading and moving on rock - im tring to not focus on the successfull climbs in my past as a basis for what i should be doing at present. instead i'm trying to focus more upon the climb i'm on and how to enjoy it to the most. to that end - i've deleted my spray list - it didn't do me any good anyway - i'd climb 'em all again in a minute. (i left my easiest route jus' for laughs)has anybody tried this or anything like it before? it isn't easy for a guy with a big premadonna ego like mine so it must be a good thing for me.

Um, I refuse to put up a ticklist. In fact, right now I'm very anti-project. Sometimes I find climbs that I really want to project and I do them (sometimes on the 95th try). But generally, I like climbing. I like to climb...to climb. Not to finish. But to climb.

That is the classic Warrior's Way approach. In the parlance of a warrior it is called erasing personal history.

Ticklist or not, you still have done (or not done) the same number and grades of climbs. You still know what you did (or did not) do. So, the only think a tick list is for is to help you keep track, or so that others can look at what you have done. Personally, I feel you can still climb for your own reasons and be pure (whatever that means) and still publicly record what you have done. I kinda doubt that anyone having trouble leading can fix it by simpling deleting a few routes from the tick list. Growth in climbing doesn't come like that, at least not for me. Instead, focus on getting outside your comfort zone every day you climb. Even if just a little bit.

I am not saying it is the wrong thing, change can be good. But, from what I have seen, just making small changes to your actuall climbing will produce resaults where deleting your tick list might not.

True that! I love you, Spragwa!
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

so if you climb to climb, and not to finish, who gets the draws down? doesn't somebody have to climb to finish?
