The new driveway to the main parking lot is now open. Excavation of the parking lot addition is finished. But, with an inch of rain and hail Friday, we had to postpone putting gravel on the new section. The old section can still accommodate 28 cars, so there should be no problem parking there. Later, when it dries out, the new section will be graveled, and the lot should hold up to 40 cars.
There is another new gravel road that leads out north from the west end of the parking lot This road, which tees off from the driveway, is NOT open to vehicles. It deadends at a cliff, and there is no place to turn around! Two cars inadvertently took this road last weekend. Backing up a half mile on a narrow gravel road is not something you want to do. This new road IS open to pedestrians, and it provides a way to hike from the main parking lot north to intersect the old logging road that goes down to the Valley floor near the Tantroft Branch Hollow. If you do hike out along this road, watch for the stone cairn and red flags off to the left about a quarter mile down. Follow these markers to the logging road, and then on down to the Valley floor.

Cunning and trickery trump youthful exuberance any day. J-Rock doesn't have a chance against this old fart.RRO wrote:Who won the chalk show down ?

That new driveway goes back to a site for a home Liz and I are building. J-Rock hasn't been back there yet. The way he drives that cowcather- equipped Subaru, he'll probably be airborne before he discovers he ran out of road.
