my first trip climbing at the Red was climbing at Pocket Wall in the spring of 2001, I heard it was closed a few weeks after we climbed there

I remember climbing at pocket wall in the fall of 2000 but was not aware that it was closed. However it was closed early the following year (2001) with threats of gear being confiscated. Not sure if that really happened to anyone but it was the Urban Legend at the time.
The Red needs another PW.

closed and forbidden.
A cliff that the FS disapproved of and insisted of its dismantling. It was a pretty good cliff, but there are better now.

Call Wilson Francis (sp?) over at Natty Bridge and ask him when he closed PW.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

That would be a fun call:
"Say, I was wondering when you closed Pocket wall?"

ask SSS or someone in the know from the RRGCC
a simple post on rrgcc.org should give you the info you are looking for.
