look at it like teachers do kids - gunks grade, seneca grade, josh grade, new grade = gifted, talented, best for a challenged kid, and special ed. all can have an a on a project but is it the grade or the effort that's important.

Kneebar, I don't want to hijack this thread. So I'll comment on the J Tree situation elsewhere.

Do you have a good J Tree story Larry? Somehow I have the feeling you do.

And then there are those who consistently onsight at a level on many different rock types in many different areas and in many different conditions... granite, limestone, sandstone, sport, trad, mixed, multipitch, slab, vertical, overhanging... etc. etc. and just know...
Good for you, and your point is? We're talking about one region here: the Red (not the New, not Lions Head, not Rumney, whatever). Correct me if I'm wrong, shouldn't grades be consistent within one region?

consistency in the Red would be nice...but consistency with other areas should be important too...that way climbing 12's in the red doesn't end up meaning you're only climbing 9's somewhere else...

There's too much rock variety. Plus, I doubt there are many national developer's conventions. Maybe Sunshine should start one, along with his climbing mall.
