Climbed out?

Post by Huggybone »

In what year was the gorge totally climbed out? I'm excluding the southern regions. If you would like to see the result of the poll, but have no idea, check the last option.

Climbed out? With more than 3,000 miles of cliffline in eastern Kentucky? Maybe you should repost this poll in 2060.

That's my opinion as well, but I hear people talking like everything worth doing has already been done.

Perhaps a good definition of "the red" is in order.
Screw you guys. I'm going bowling.

I mean the gorge proper: North of slade, south of maribia, east of spass creek, west of wall of denial.

Walked about a mile of undeveloped cliff yesterday with vast potential both sport and trad. Alas, its is on FS and there are two niter mines, a moonshine still and who know what else down there.

So is that out? Or is it still potential? Technically you could climb in an area like that, you just could not publish or spray about it. Which I am not, because you will never find out where it is.

Actually, I know exactly the cliff you are talking about...
Just kidding.

No, it is not out. I'm thinking of trad lines, though, since getting permission to bolt is impossible.

After talking to Rhino I believe it. They may have even been to the cliff I saw. I did see one very ominous crack to a roof chimney that screamed John Bronaugh.

And if you are talking trad Huggy...well, I know of a few that need to be climbed.

This whole family man thing has stifled my climbing progress. I don't mind, but don't expect that it'll be me out there doing all the FAs. Just the easy ones for now.

But trust me, there are plenty of new lines for everyone. You just got to keep looking. Me and my cousin Dustin hiked the opposite side of the valley I went to yesterday about five years ago. We didn't find anything except niter mines and old barrel rings. It turns out I was on the wrong side of the drainage. If I had started my systematic explorations at the other end I'd have found the best stuff first, instead of last.

I still say we ought to get together and go do some of these things. Its just a matter of getting schedules in synch.

The future of climbing in the Red will be on private land.
