Setter's Comp at Climb Time (Cincy).
The plan is to take some of the better (bigger/newer) holds and distribute them by lot. All the rest (and there are quite a few) will be in a common pool and you may take up to 5 at a time. If someone else has a hold you want, there will be a fair amount af latitude for trading holds or wallspace. As long as the competitors come to reasonable terms, it will be allowed. On the other hand, part of what makes a good route setter is a person who can deal with limitations. An ideal route setter can set in all areas of a gym, use any of the available holds, set for newbies, children, and experienced climbers; not just themselves. That's what this comp is all about. Clearly we want it to be fun. But in the end, I hope it will reveal the really creative side of route setting, the ability a setter has to lead the dance, so to speak.

Yep, still on. Setting on Saturday and bouldering on Sunday.
The format for the setter's comp is likely in for some revision, especially in the matter of price and prizes. At the start, the big question was whether to have big prizes at the cost of a higher entry fee, or token prizes with not much of a fee. Seems the latter is more what people are interested in. From the beginning, the goal was just to get area setters together to exchange ideas and get other perspectives, we can do this whether there are large prizes or not, so we will adjust accordingly. Contact me if you are interested and we will make sure things are tailored to generate the most appeal.
The bouldering comp on Sunday will be gear prizes, and the familiar format.
Hope it rains!
