River is home and doing well. He has lost a fair amount of weight and is pretty lazy but he will be just fine.

Your not kidding. The viper incident was much scarier. Thanks for the pics !

I took a nap about two feet from a copperhead at the base of Bonzo. (Nope, I didn't know who I was sleeping with!) He/she didn't bother me, and I didn't bother him/her. Some guy came along and tossed the snake into the woods. I watched him/her work his/her way back to the spot he/she had been sunning. It was sooo cool to watch.

I guess he/she wanted to sleep with me some more! :P
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

Glad to hear it. Thanks for the update Matt. I hope he continues to improve & puts that weight back on quickly.

Poor fella...let that baby sleep in the bed till he feels all better. :)

Obe was bit by a copperhead a while back. I reckon he learned. My grandfather told me stories of what they used to do to entertain themselves when they were kids. They'd take a black snake, and snap it like a whip until the head flew off. Apparently popped right off. Think that would go over well nowadays? Ahh, the good ol days. When men were men. And women did all the cooking.

We saw our first two snakes of the year this weekend. Timid little guys...

Nope, Sierra (J.J.'s daughter) usually looks for them and tries to catch them to play with them. Oh yeah, I also had two more flying squirrels jump out at me from another new route.

I hate snakes too.
Last week I did a snake story outta Winchester where the people dropped about a dozen garter snakes off inside several business. Funny stuff. We got one of the guilty party to talk to us and show us around his snakepit...errr backyard. He was grabbing snakes left and right. Funny stuff. Oh, and how they three got caught....made pictures of themselves dropping the snakes off in the store.

Going to face my snake phobia again tonight when I mow. I think I'm the last one on my street to mow my grass so all the snakes have probabbly moved down to my nappy turf. I don't mind the snakes in our yard, keeps the rest of the vermin away, but it takes a few mows to get used to seeing those suckers slithering around under feet.
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.
