That seems like a fair-enough statement... it took me a little thinking to accept it, but that's probably because I've always expected to have to work, whether or not I get married. I wonder how other women feel about this issue-- if they feel like they "have" to work, or if it's simply a choice.

The money and the time spent at work reasons explain why most of the professors I've gotten to know in the CSA department here appear to have happy marriages... not only do they make a good amount of money, but they get tons of time off throughout the year. It's probably even better for a marriage/family situation if both the man and the woman are professors... think of all the long vacations you could take together. If you've got the patience to pursue a PhD, it seems like the way to go.

women having to work is a multi faceted issue, the decline in labor unions, the 60's and the rise of feminism and the changes the "traditional family" experienced from these and other factors, but like you said money leads to many problems

There were two here in LExington during the 70s. Pretty scary chicas. Fortunately, they didn't harm women. Unusual for a serial killer I know.
One of those girls was from my home Lincoln County.

see, according to huggybone, you can partially blame your marriage problems on the republicans....I knew there was a reason to be unhappy...

but help me out huggy bone..I'll bite....since salaries are set by school boards and districts, how is it the republicans are to blame for this demise? I would tend to blame stingy homeowners, who want to keep property taxes low, for setting the true example of low teaching salaries..

but hey, that's just me, and I've been known to be wrong before...

o wait..I get it...what you meant is that republicans are the only honest, hard working homeowners in this country...and THAT is why we can blame them....my bad.
