Glad to hear he'll be fine.
When I read your first post in this thread, I was imagining a dog curious about a snake and sniffing around at it until the snake finaly struck. Figured something like that will stay in that dog-brain for life!

I'm so sorry for River. I wish him a speedy recovery.
I can imagine that he'll err a little on the cautious side with snakes from now on. Dogs are too smart not to learn from experiences, ya know?
Please keep us posted.

Diggum, I used to think the same way about snakes (and sometimes I still do). But I realized that I have to learn to deal with them and the fact that I have a boyfriend who loves to go exploring and bushwhacking all the time. The best way to deal with snakes is to learn about them and be able to identify the different kinds so that when you come across one, you can scream appropriately (ie: garter snake = little gasp; copperhead = bloodcurdlingscream ) .diggum wrote:snakes...*shudder*

Chester is terrible, watch out for this girl. I once saw her bite the head of a harmless black snake, tie it in an overhand knot, take it up the climb and then feast on it at the chains. Scary stuff for sure.

Woah! That's a whole different side to sweet-smiling, eyelash batting Chester!RRO wrote:Chester is terrible, watch out for this girl. I once saw her bite the head of a harmless black snake, tie it in an overhand knot, take it up the climb and then feast on it at the chains. Scary stuff for sure.
Reminds me of something: I was in a van heading back to where we were staying from an archeological site*. The van went thunk-thunk over something, then came to a stop. I thought the driver was looking to see what it was, when he threw it in reverse, thunk-thunk, then forward ... thunk-thunk. I looked back and we had put several different 'dents' in a 6-8' long constrictor-type snake that was unlucky enough to be crossing the road. I guess the driver really didn't like snakes!
