New way to keep climbing shoes clean

Post by weber »

This is your climbing shoe slogging around in mud at the base of a climb.

This is your climbing shoe, nestled cozily within a sandal and protected from mud.

Any questions?

Actually when I saw a climber wearing sandals in this way to keep his climbing shoes clean, I thought I must be the last person on the planet to discover this trick. But, several friends had not seen it either. So, here it is. I found that 1/2 size up from my street shoe worked well for me. The sandals were $18.

Why don't you just take those clown shoes (ooops I mean climbing shoes) off between burns?

While that will work fine for comfortable climbing shoes, the fact of the matter is that comfortable climbing shoes don't exist. I still prefer to take them off and throw the sandals on between climbs. 8)
Sarcasm is a tool the weak use to avoid confrontation. People with any balls just outright lie.

Surprisingly, my Mythos fit almost too comfortably. They are really great for long sustained multipitch stuff. Besides, I hate lacing and unlacing them between climbs. Then there is that pesky knot. At my advanced age I keep forgetting how to tie my shoes. Let's see, it's right over left then... no wait... I think the rabbit comes out of the hole and pees on the tree... no wait...

rick, do you need piglet to make a ruling?

if that is your shoe in the picture, I'd be concerned too.looks like someone tied 13 knots in that lace to get the tails out of the mud.

this is a good example of a gumbyism. oh feaux paux! i usually avoid getting slogging around in mud in climbing shoes by standing on the rope bag or by climbing.

If you want the premier level of protection, go buy yourself a pair of galoshes. That way you don't have to worry about laces, and you can always stop and jump in mud puddles!

'Cause if my shoe comes untied, I might step on the lace and fall, go boomy!
