I don't know, Danny... SCIN apparently left one and he seems to be dealing with it just fine...
(I forget what route they said they left it on... it had a chimney in it from what I remember of the story...)

Myself & many other climbers associated with the UC Mountaineering Club worship at the feet of Fred Beckey, the ultimate old climbers idol. We were introduced directly to Mr. Beckey by Alex Cudkowicz. Alex came to the UCMC from Seattle where he had climbed w/Beckey. Alex brought Beckey's spirit of exploration to the UCMC and to climbing at the Red. UCMC members, Steve Must and Mark Carter, had the good fortune of accompanying Beckey on two trips to China http://web.outsideonline.com/peaks/beckey/intro.html
From a quick search I came up with the following Beckey link for a little inspiration - http://www.planet.wwu.edu/fall02/fall02_beckey.htm

I don't know how many times I've failed in trying to get people to work on downclimbing in the gym. It's great training (strength and skills) plus it can save your gear and your ass. Let's not forget down aiding, too.Horatio Felacio wrote:man, why don't people just downclimb? i don't get it. i would go to the ends of the earth to save a crappy wired hex. leaving gear sucks, except when other people do it.
Then again, I've ditched gear hauling butt off things in the Colorado Front Range as lightning and hail approached, but things are a bit different in the Gorge.
Last weekend I downclimbed, downaided, backcleaned and left a nut and biner(hell no I'm not telling you yahoos where,it might still be there when I get back) Theres as many ways to get down as there is up. I talked to someone else who said the walkoff wes mentioned, was casual.
There is a great pic of Fred Beckey in the last Ascent book.
