you have to take the training course. i can't remember how long it is(3 days to a week). they offer it twice a year but most of the people take it in november. i think the other time is in the summer when no one wants to be anywhere near hueco.
once you take the course you are good to guide for the year. you still have to pay to enter the park but with a TCP(texas state parks pass) it is really cheap. as long as you take out two public tours a week you can stay at robs for free. he started paying the commercial guides a small amount of money this year so you don't have to survive on tips alone. still it is so cheap down there you can live a long time on a little money.
Once you become a guide i think you have to guide once in every twelve month period to keep you guide status.
a bunch of people take the guide class and then are only there for a few weeks. they really need people to guide for the whole season. plus if you don't get injured living at hueco for the season is the best way to get strong there is.
