Porter's Old Routes

Post by Toy »

Anyone out there be on Porter's old routes around the corner from the Poopie Wall at Torrent? They are actually closer to the Via Ferrata than Torrent. Just curious

These? But I can't find Church Rock or any of these routes in the online guide, but they are in the Bronough guide. Anybody know if they're still open?

Church Rock is now the via ferrata and forget asking Mark to let you on them.

Yup, 5 new routes from 5.5-5.8 sport and a 5.7 trad. They are not yet online.

All of Porter's routes are old.

Yeah, Toy and I got on all 3 last week which is why he's asking. We were very pleasantly surprised... can't believe we've been going to Torrent all these years and never got on 'em. The left one is middle 5.11 and great (though a rude warm-up). The right one is a classic and (believe it or not) "only" about 12a or so... it looks much harder with some great moves up high. The middle one is quite vicious. Flat roof at mid-height with a stopper crux just over the lip (even Toy couldn't do the move) which makes me wonder just how hard it is... we had heard 12+. Next time we'll rap in to figure out just which part of this horizontal to aim for...

Hopefully these routes will make it into the new guidebook. They certainly deserve some traffic.

Hey Jack, suddenly these routes are in the online guide. Go figure. They have the middle route listed at 11c!
