When to say When?

Post by Wes »

So, when do you all call it a day climbing? I mean, if you only get to climb a day or two a week, then it is kinda easy to keep climbing until dark. But, if you climb a lot, then, at some point before totally wasting yourself, you need to stop, or you won't be able to climb the next day. Like, after tomorrow, I will have climbed nine of the last eleven days, and I hurt. I have splits on six out of eight fingers. Meadows tried to kill me at Lexington Athletic club Saturday with a two hour workout, followed by two great hours pulling plastic. Then a kinda hard day today, but I quit early in the hopes that I can climb strong again tomorrow. I really wanted to do a couple more routes today, and to boulder for a bit longer last night, but I am learning that I need to not push so hard 24/7. What about you all? How many days in a row/week do you climb at a high intensity?

I've heard two days on two days off. I usually boulder on plastic once a week with yoga and some running or aerobics twice a week. I still can't climb that great but I've lost a lot of weight and feel a lot better. I try to fit in all the climbing weather permits during the weekend.

Ok, I can't possibly write a helpful response to this since I'm doing good to climb once a month.

Thirty four - I am in the ancient hard-person division at the triple crown next year.

Rest is good, but the scheduling has just worked out to climb a bunch the last couple weeks. Plus, I really, really like to climb, esp. with my friends. So it is hard to say no, and they have so much energy, that once I get started, I usually don't stop until I am worked over.

Yep, and I am still "the young guy" on team suck. It is so cool to see Sunshine and Snake (both 50+) still cranking out 5.12. Man, I hope I can still even climb 5.7 slab in 15 years. There was another *older* guy at Solar today - flashed Herd Mentality (12c) then, for a cool down, onsighted (hanging the draws) Supafly (12b), with the top boulder problem soaking wet. Bad ass for sure.

Yea, he was real old. At least he looked old to me. He could really climb though. I think he was from North Carolina. Climbers from NC., especially old climbers, can usually climb hard. Slabs, trad, bolts, routes with no bolts or any other pro, boulders, ice. They will flat out climb anything and they love it all. They are like Brits. Most of them are bad ass.
So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins,

Treat every day like it's your last day of climbing. Take ibuprofen and pull.

Hell yeah, climb until you can climb no more...
