You should be able to just pop them out with the pull of a lever near the doors (I think?). Once they are out, it makes a nice flat sleeping platform - just add a couple of the cheap ground pads and a fleace blanket, and it is as good as a bed.

There was just an article on the winter issue of She Sends about a school bus that runs on recycled vegetable oil. The couple who owns it employed the help of a bunch of hippie friends from Prescott to transform the bus from a gas-guzzler to a grease-guzzler and then they did a long road trip and "fueled" the bus through Chinese/Thai/etc restaurants. They said it smelled of wonton. I think they called her La Refrita.

I made a platform for a minivan once that would fold open over the back seat. It was big enough for a queen sized air mattress with plenty of storage under but allowing more than two people to travel in the van. With two cars running together we could allow three people to sleep at a time and drive 24/7 cross country. It was killer for camping, too. Just park in a flat spot.
My cousin is converting one of his diesel vehicles to vegetable oil. All it takes is a way to heat the oil before it gets to the engine (and some filtering on the way into the tank).

I know the feeling with xterras. I still love it tho - its great for carrying gear and the endlessly shedding dog.diggum wrote:I was thinking of one of those plug-in cars!! Gas is supposed to get up to $3.00 a gallon this year & my xterra sucks it down. If I go to the red twice a week I'm at $90/week for gas.
