longlegs, no disrespect, but I was talking about the higher divisions. what did the elite first place get? all divisions below elite are merely filler divisions so enough people will pay to make holding a comp financially feasible. (if it helps, I don't climb elite either, but I know this as fact.)
imagine the olympics with a beginner, int, advanced, and elite divsions in gymnastics...how wierd.
and you didn't fully play within the rules, like you stated. sand bagging is cheating.

the whole sandbagging thing is hard to explain from this comp...I didn't do it on purpose...they bumped everyone else up...if I had climbed hard they probably would've done the same to me...I always enter beginner...I am one step down from those who enter Intm. meaning...they flash what takes me 2-3 times...pigsteak wrote:longlegs, no disrespect, but I was talking about the higher divisions. what did the elite first place get? all divisions below elite are merely filler divisions so enough people will pay to make holding a comp financially feasible. elite got plates too...same as me
oh and...it's funny you think comps are just for elite...bc most of the comps I've been to have WAY more problems set for everyone else than the 'elite'...who end up climbing the same stuff I do sometimes...

long legs...re-read my post. I did not say comps were only for elite. I said all other divisions are needed so enough people will enter to make it financially feasible. what is the alternative? just holding an "open" division where all people compete on the same problems...can you guess how many beginners are going to pay to get smashed by Sharma? comps are about the gym..to make some money (a little anyway), to creat goodwill with the community, to recruit new climbers, to sell gear, to get the holds changed out, to have some variety.
don't for a second think comps are to make sure you have "fun"..that is merely seondary to the goodwill the gym receives....of course, if you have fun, you'll come back next time and pluck down another $35....
you could have rejected the prize, and offered it to the next person, if you were that concerned. also, we have a rule.if you finish top three in a comp, you need to move up the following comp. looks like it is time for you to go to int.

Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.
LLR came to Louisville and kicked some serious tail in the Rocksport comp in the Female Beginner division. She finished first and I would say the prizes won were not so bad. She won a cam along with other little trinkets.we have a rule.if you finish top three in a comp, you need to move up the following comp
I guess the next time to she'll be kicking butt in the Intermediate division.
Way to go LLR.

I would enter if I wasn't the only one...and if they gave away good door prizes...I don't really go to comps to compete...for example...I've been thinking about going to the Phoenix Boulderblast...you seriously think I'll be any competition for anyone/? I don't think so...I think comps are a great way to meet new people and really concetrate on climbing...and give a good reason to get out of town and try someplace newpigsteak wrote:just holding an "open" division where all people compete on the same problems...can you guess how many beginners are going to pay to get smashed by Sharma?
yeah right...have you been behind the scenes before?comps are about the gym..to make some money (a little anyway), to creat goodwill with the community, to recruit new climbers, to sell gear, to get the holds changed out, to have some variety.
I know one gym at least...don't for a second think comps are to make sure you have "fun"..that is merely seondary to the goodwill the gym receives....of course, if you have fun, you'll come back next time and pluck down another $35....
yeah THAT would've been sooo nice of me...stick my nose in the air...I kinda liked the plate...just don't know what I'm going to do with it...you could have rejected the prize, and offered it to the next person, if you were that concerned.
who is we? and why would I care about your rules?also, we have a rule.if you finish top three in a comp, you need to move up the following comp. looks like it is time for you to go to int.
and unlike you...my body doesn't climb the same from week to week....not even close...I'd tell you the reason why but I'm sure you could care less...some weeks I can barely climb VB- and others I throw at way harder...and next year I will probably enter Int...if I don't get sick again.

the cam has a very honored place right now...it's proudly displayed on my coffee table...on top of the plate I got from Miami
I feel bad for my above post...it seems I'm knocking Miami...I'm not...I was just using it as an example...gyms should make the most with what they have...Miami does that...I mean geez they put this whole wall thing together...just for the comp it seems...that's some work!!

sometimes the rule can be stretchedpigsteak wrote:also, we have a rule.if you finish top three in a comp, you need to move up the following comp. looks like it is time for you to go to int.
there was a time that i won intermediate in a few ABS comps but didn't move up. for that time, i was on the cusp of going one way or the other. my score in each case secured me 1st place in intermediate, but the same score would've put me at dead last in advanced.
i guess it was really booty vs. no booty, but not too unfairly.
