Ibex

Post by Wes »

Man, this might be my new favorite bouldering area if only it was closer to something. Very cool setting, very, very cool problems and some of the hardest rock I have ever touched. Bouldering would be the reason to go there, but if you are a hard-core traddie there are two of the steepest cracks that I have seen there on this 45-50 foot boulder. I think they come in around 5.13ish.

First, one more pic from Bishop:

And me, making the 2nd hold (my high point) on Bigger is better.

I love Ibex so much. That place is amazing. I found it to be sort of like a fantasy land with having to drive forever to the middle of nowhere, then driving over the dried up lake to some incredible rock. It would be a drag though if that was the closest rock for you since it is quite remote.

I didn't realize those cracks went at 5.13. I got on one of them but bailed at the fixed piece about halfway up. Nice pics Wes
