Mad Rock Shoes

Post by SikMonkey »

Just wondering if anyone here has tried (or knows anyone who has tried) the shoes from a new company called Mad Rock. I had heard a bit about them on RC.com but just thought, "yeah, yeah. Another flash-in-the-pan shoe company...blah blah blah", that was until I ran into a guy who had a pair last night at the gym and got a chance to inspect them. I have one word to describe the shoes: BOMBER. They are possibly the most solidly built and innovative shoe I have seen. On top of that, they are cheap. I think the most expensive pair they have is $90. I am seriously thinking about trying out the Shark model in the near future and just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with the company. Their website is http://www.madrockshoes.com

I would love to hear some comprehensive reviews of these shoes. The price is very attractive, no doubt. The only gripe I have with the design (on some of the models) is the way the rubber wraps all around the top and bottom of the front half of the foot. The shoe is not going to stretch and conform to your feet with all that rubber..

You are right, but I think that's what they are aiming for. It probably wouldn't stretch that much to conform to the shape of your foot, but from what I understand you don't have to downsize them (much, if any) either. Also, only a couple of the models have the rubber all the way around. What shoes do you climb in right now?

I checked out a pair that a guy was wearing last week at the gym. They are super sticky so it will be interesting to see how the rubber wears. It is pretty soft. Like the price tag but I think the next go around I am going to try the CHili's
Just genuinely disengenuous.

I wear Mythos for cracks and Cobras for face. My next shoe was going to be the Miura. I love the Cobra a ton and I think the Miura will be even better. The price tag sucks, though.

I have very narrow heels and a wide toe box. I can't see the rubber caps working for me - I need the custom fit of a shoe that will stretch. People with non-duck feet should fare better. I wonder if they will be hot, though.

Yeah, the Cobras are a good shoe and the Miuras are pretty damn pricey. I love my Cobras but I am anxious to see how these Mad Rocks will perform. I would say you are right about the MR's not conforming to a wide toe box though. I just hope they aren't baggy in the heel.

Lynne,
What size do you wear? I bought some Miura's too small (size 38 I think) that I would sell around $75.00. I may have already sold them, but I can't remember. I for sure have a pair of 5.10 Anazasi's (same size) that I would sell for around the same price. Both look brand new. Thay have only been worn maybe twice. Let me know.

Hey Don, if they are a size 38, I'm interested! Let me know if your Miura's are indeed available. Send me email or PM me. Thanks!

There are six different MR models, four of which are on the same last. There's a lace up, a zipper, and a slipper all with the rubber covering the toe box. But there's also a velcro model thats on the same last without the rubber on the front half of the shoe. Then there are also two more all-round oriented shoes. I'm considering a pair, if anyone hear's anymore let me know.
