not that there is anything wrong with being a gym rat. as a matter of fact, i wish more people would only climb in the gym. some people should really not go outside.

I think many people don't have the option of climbing outside on a regular basis. Climbing is mostly about the movements between holds. These movements don't change much no matter what you're pulling on. The difference between a climber and a rock climber is that a rock climber sincerely wants to get on the real stuff as well as experience thrashing through the woods, getting lost, getting on the wrong route b/c you misread the guidebook, swatting bugs, get poison ivy, etc.
Ticking is gym climbing outdoors.

wes,
I have been notified that my services were needed over here. Much to my dismay, the thread has turned into a drivel of snot. But to sooth everyone's consciences, I shall do my best to clarify the issue.

First, the question is worded incorrectly. Meadows hit it closest to home, with her diatribe on climbing 11d/12a/12b...This, my friends, is the real measure of a "real rock climber". I have known punters who climb outside 10 weekends a year, and never go indoors to climb. But they toprope everything, sit around high half the time, talk about their cool rack of hexes, talk about the glory days of climbing, and still can't make it with the chicks. THEY are not real rock climbers.

12a is the line of demarcation. That is why that is such a volatile subject on here. Until a person climbs 12a consistently, they are not a real rock climber. Indoor/outdoor is sending the wrong message to the youth of America.

Glad I could be of assistance.

Finally, HE has come to enlighten us, and I think I learned a new word.

Pig, a few questions:
1. Should REAL rock climbers send .12s or just climb them?
2. If send is the answer, should REAL rock climbers onsight those .12s or will a mere redpoint after 8 attempts suffice?
3. Must those .12s be uncontested .12s, nothing that you will spend page after page debating only to surrender to a thread hijack on fruit juice?
4. So you're saying REAL rock climbers easily get laid?

Thank you,

Pigsteak. You're a semi-well spoken fool. I'm a rockclimber and I"m no where NEAR sending an 11. So bite me.

OOps. I meant sending a 12. I'm just a poorly spoken semi-fool.

I climb rocks; therefore, I am.
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.
