Top Ropping and Bouldering the Gorge
Top Ropping and Bouldering the Gorge
I'm gonna be straight forward with ya'll. Ive never climbed at Red River Gorge. I plan on going as soon as the weather gets nice. From what I hear it's the best climbing around. But, seein as I'm limited on money for gear, my climbing is limited to bouldering and top ropping. Could anyone tell me a few good places to go when I get to the gorge

The bouldering is pretty limited and spread out. There's a guidebook to bouldering, but I've heard that it’s not very good. You can also search this site for "bouldering" and you'll find some discussions and links.
As for top roping, good luck. Your best bet is to either hook up with someone who will lead for you (as mentioned earlier) or, if you know what you're doing, get the gear and lead some routes. You can find enough 5.5-5.7 trad and sport routes to entertain for a while. There probably are some places to top rope, but I bet it's a real pain in the ass in the Red.
And you heard right, the Red is an awesome place to climb.
