What to buy?

Post by Kamkit »

Hey guys and gals, I am looking to buy some cams for a friend. I need some advice on what to get. He has no cams at the present. What should I start with. I don't really want to spend more than a couple hundred for now! Thanks! :D

You should start with becoming my friend. I'll wash your car even.

:)

Where does he climb mostly? Red River Gorge? Somewhere else?

Does he already have cams? If so, what kind? What size?

I'm not qualified to answer, but some more info might be required for better answers from the more experienced tradsters... If you don't know specifics or still aren't sure after all the answers here, then you can always go for a gift certificate from a gear shop like www.mgear.com, www.shorelinemtn.com or somewhere similar to let him decide:) Trust me, just getting that gift certificate would be thought enough for me!

Cheak out mountain gear they have great deals on metolius power cams you can buy a set of 1-4 or 5-8 for arond 200 bucks. Plus the new power cams have range finder that can help if your friend has not placed many cams.

It's hard to get a really good collection for a few hundred... Does he/she have any passive gear to compliment the cams? I'd start out with smaller cams like the Metolius 3-cams, then move up to the BD camalots if I had to do it again.
Sarcasm is a tool the weak use to avoid confrontation. People with any balls just outright lie.

1,2 and 3 BD camalots are good to start with. If you have enough $$$, then add a .75 or the 3.5. You should be able to find good deals on the "old style" BD camalots, as they are coming out with a newer look.

I agree with Wes. 1,2, & 3 Black Diamond Camalots are a staple

Anyone actually own Aliens? I hear a lot of talk about them, but I don't know anyone who uses them.
I've had just about enough of this shit.
