Brian Youngs Update - Prayers Needed

Post by quicksilver »

Just got off the phone with my son Joshua, and he and his family spent the past couple of days visiting Brian and his family in St. Louis. Brian is unfortunately strugggleing and at this point is paralysed from the chest down. His spirit is good and his resolve is strong. Joshua carried Brian up the ramp at Maras'(his wife) parents house and then they all went and took in a movie. Just 3 short years ago I belayed Brian on his first outdoor lead (Pougue's Ethics) and I remember how excited he was to on sight the climb. There is a small possibilty that Brian may get a bone marrow transplant if things work out. Please say a prayer and send all the positive thoughts you can in Brians direction. Never take a moment for granted. Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts.

More and more treatments are including bone marrow transplants. For anyone who has donated blood, I would strongly urge you to consider becoming a part of the National Bone Marrow database. In order to do this, it just involves a vial of blood and the necessary paperwork to have it submitted to the database. Next time you are in donating, please inquire about this and really press the issue. Often times, you will run into some resistance about it but press on.

I know first hand the frustration of having a loved one needing a transplant and not finding a match. The more people signed up and on the roll, the greater chance for a perfect match.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Brian and his entire family.

Thanks for the update quicksilver. I think of Brian and Mara every day. His strength, bravery and passion for life has been an inspiration to me.

It's true. Life is a gift and we should never take a moment for granted!
