Seems the forum moderators are playing their cutsie little word switcheroo games today. Substitute my "qclimbing" for their "have freaky tantric sex". (Remove the q.)

The UC Mountaineering Club proposed the perfect rock gym for the new Rec Center. In a university rec center at least you don't have to cater to Boy Scout & B-day party scene. The gym proposed by the UCMC would have sandstone, limestone, & granite like surfaces and would be great for both training and teaching climbing. It would have some crack like features & a ledge or two for teaching multi-pitch climbing. A part of the gym would have bouldering, a spectacular 90 foot+ lead pillar, and spectator stands with the goal of accomodating world class climbing competitions. We even had an idea of getting money from a major sponsor like Subaru or Jeep. So far the University has ignored the UCMC & their proposals. Instead the whole show is being planned and controlled by University administrators. Like most Universities they'll probable put in a token little "architecturally interesting" Nicros wall.

If someone were interested in doing a gym in Lexington with the expectation of just breaking even, then it could be done. The idea of making a serious return on one's investment doesn't seem to work in this town. No need for profit eliminates the need for the kids and parties. This is the idea I have for when I get out of med school, but if someone else wants to do it first, that would be great for everyone in town.
