Looks like a chossy mossy crack to me.

Are we certain that poor fella didn't just happen to get stuck in that thing while passing by and someone snapped a shot of it.

There's a crack that looks something liek that (though I'm pretty sure its not it0 across the creek and up the hill from Friction Slab. THe landing was always too muddy for me to even think about trying it.
