Rock Town Dec 30-Jan3

Post by pawilkes »

Im planning to head down to Rock Town afterwork on the 30th and come back mid-day on the 3rd of January. I know other people are heading down and I was wondering if anyone had a simliar schedule planned and wanted to ride down together. I live in Louisville so it would be nice if we could meet in Louisville or Lexington (or somewhere else conveniently on the way there).

Phil: If you come back a day sooner, I would be down with riding with you.

Hey, there are a few people that are coming back the 2nd, Meadows, so you could ride back with someone else if you need to.

So, there are going to be a bunch of cool people at rocktown for New Years. For those of you that haven't been there yet, here is a bit of beta:

1. There is no bathroom (not even a portapotty)
2. There is no source of water (unless you bring a purifier and the little creek is running)
3. The road up there really sucks. You want a 4 X 4, high clearance, or serious skill getting your normal car through some pretty rough spots.
4. It is a 30+ minute drive each way to any kind of food or supplies.
5. Do NOT speed on the dirt road, or you will get a ticket. This is the #1 access problem there right now.
6. Public consumption of alcohol is prohibited.
7. There are tons of problems there that are not in the dr. topo guide, but that will get you started.
8. The boulders are world class and the problems super sweet.

You should make #8 the first on the list. I got to #5 and decided that I didn't want to go.

It is a kinda rough place to stay, but the boulders are soooo good it is worth the trouble. There are hotels maybe 45 minutes away, but you would have to go up and down that hill every day. Which if you have a 4 X 4 is no big deal. But I know someone who damaged their normal car driving up there a few weeks ago.

1) Are there woods? Or are there designated Bathroom Boulders or something?

3) A Subaru Outback should be okay, right?
