I don't want to get into the prevention debate, but I might be able to help with this one. Pay attention to how your fingers feel while and after you climb. I feel kind of a sliding motion when I've torn a flapper loose but it hasn't actually flapped yet. That and look at your fingers. You know where it happens most and keep an eye on it. Once it starts to go, wrap a bit of tape around it to help keep it from swelling up right away and, more importantly, to keep it from tearing off totally. If you tape that spot before you climb the next couple of times it will start to heal and won't hurt as much when it finally goes. If it's still tender, tape it again until it toughens up a bit and can take some real punishment.
Ticking is gym climbing outdoors.
Kristophe, think about this for a minute...512OW wrote:Agreed, however, how in gods name would you get a flapper on one of those routes???
You get flappers from falling, right? So chances are that if the routes are on her tick list, she didn't fall off of them, and thus her flappers are not a result of climbing these routes.

No, not right. You get a flapper from sliding over a callouse and tearing it. You dont' necessarily have to fall. I got one on Mr. Get It On Jones just from hitting the big ledge the wrong way when I threw to it. I didn't fall though. I fell 3 moves later.Yasmeen wrote:Kristophe, think about this for a minute...512OW wrote:Agreed, however, how in gods name would you get a flapper on one of those routes???

If she can't handle the heat...stay out the furnace.

I'm not trying to cause an argument...just wanted some advice.
My skin rips from climbing in the gym. I'll get a blister while on the route & not realize until the skin has been ripped off. So my thoughts were that if they were calloused over, they wouldn't blister as easily.
Its all fine, except I did offer advice, albeit in a sarcastic sort of way. In fact, I offered educated advice, having delt with callouses for way longer than most everyone on this board.
YOU called me a jackass.
Welcome to the furnace. You called down the thunder, now embrace it.

I'm not getting the joke. I've been an athlete who relies on his hands since I can remember.longlegsrule wrote:512OW wrote: having delt with callouses for way longer than most everyone on this board.
If you're referring to masturbation, thats just an even better reason to file off callouses. Don't act like you don't do it.
In fact, I've heard stories about it.
Wait, isn't that a sin or something?
