Sunny bouldering?

Post by Wes »

I was thinking about going to Lilly Saturday, does anyone know if the boulders get good sun? So, while it might be a few degrees warmer there, without the sun, it might be to cold to have any fun.

Did ya go? If so you probabbly found out that the place doesn't get a lot of sun (at lest from what I rembember).
I see they are still lopping off mountains in Eastern Kentucky. Electricity isn't cheap.

Nope, had a pretty damn good day bouldering in the RRG Saturday. OW problem at Roadside, boulders at the Junkyard, and finished up the day at Pistol Ridge on Dreams (very, very cool. One of the best problems in the red for sure) and an intro to when doves cry. It never really felt all that cold out.

MiaRock and I went to HP-40 this weekend with SCIN and Artsay. Kick ass bouldering weather: 30 degrees and very sunny. Pretty much everyone sent their projects but me, but I had a kick ass workout trying to keep up with Artsay. I feel like a spent the weekend doing OW at Muscle Beach.

A great place ot go in the winter for sure. If you aren't into camping then stop at the first rest area in AL and pick up a hotel discount book (great beta from Artsay). We stay at a nice hotel in Gadsonfor $30.00 a night, with breakfast. Just a nice 30 minute drive away from HP.

How long does it take to drive from the Cincy area to HP40? I've heard so much great stuff about this place, I really want to check it out.

It is like, 5.5 - 6 hours from Lexington, so maybe 6.5 - 7 from Cinci.

HP40 is the bomb. It's such sweet, sweet bouldering...

For those who go there, I highly recommend the Rodeway Inn in Gadsden, exit 183, with coupon was $29.95 AND THEY ALLOW DOGS for an additional $7. The room was amazingly nice. The outside looks shabby but inside is like a freakin' Hilton! The nicest $30 hotel I've ever stayed in by a long shot.

Also, there's a Mexican restaurant called Villa Fiesta that's a must when you're there.

Artsay, where did you get the coupon? And how many are allowed in a room?

At the rest area when you first enter Alabama. Every state has a hotel coupon booklet. Our coupon was for 1-4 people which was cool because frequently you can get suckered by a good coupon because the room will still run an extra $5 per person.
