First timer in the RRG - some info please?

Post by Godzilla »

Hi everyone! I am a going to the RRG last weekend of November and just wanted to ask for some info about meteo conditions. Is it still good to climb there and where are the warmest walls in case the day is cold? Thanks a lot in advance for your help! Please PM me.

You'll love the weather in the Gorge. Be sure to bring some warm clothes -- you can always take them off! The South facing walls (check out the online guidebook!) will get the most sun, but given the weather right now almost everything that's dry will be great to climb.

Without more info (what grade climb are you looking for? trad? sport?) I can't be too specific. Enjoy the Red!

Funk Rock is a good winter cliff.

If it's cold at night and then warms up during the day, the rock can still be a little cold. I bring some of those chemical hand warmers and use them in my chalk bag.

Nothing like grabbing a crimper and not feeling it due to numb finger tips.

If you go to Funk Rock, take a pair of Tevas in addition to your hiking shoes along with an extra pair of warm wool socks. You'll thank me when you get there.

Or, take a pair of fishing waders. The kind that come all the way up to your chest like overalls. That's my plan.
