Y'know, I remember one artist I thought would suck shit. I was working in a record store in '90 and the same repulsive soccer moms that bought Michael Bolton kept buying this guy so I just made the obvious assumption that he sucked ass equally with Bolton, Yanni, and George Winston. But I was wrong. His name is Chris Isaaks. His albums are fantastic.

I also like Naked City a lot but those women definitely weren't buying any John Zorn.

Chris Isaak Forever Blue is excellant. Nice mellow tunes for driving through the mountains and chillin'.

Last night I was at my friends wall in Georgetown having a good ole time. The last song plays on the Jukebox and sirtoots is asked to queue up something. After a minute or two she says "I'm in the L's, pick something." I blurt out Lucious Jackson. I guess I heard that from this thread but I'm too lazy to look it up. Damn they throw out some mellow music to climb to.
Screw you guys. I'm going bowling.

I forgot all about them. Are they still around? That Beastie Boys label (Grand Royal) is an interesting bunch of artists.

A really fun band is Cibo Mato. The bassist is Julian (sp?) Lennon though they don't advertise it for some reason.

Whaaaaat? You don't like hearing song after song about someone's bitter memories of a troubled childhood?

Marvin Gaye, Three Dog Night, Otis Redding, and Grand Funk Railroad already did it and they did it better. Don't forget Average White Band, Parliament, The Guess Who, BTO, Stevie Wonder... I dunno. I haven't heard anything from hit "R&B" artists that's been worth a shit in the last 20 years. .........
Yeah but they all kinda got it from The Meters, didn't they? Origin of funk, gave James Brown (et al) everything they had. Music is such an organic thing it's hard to draw the line between what's first and what's best.

Wow dude, you can actually stand to listen to the radio? I guess the Ville's better than Lex since we lost WRVG but NPR is all I can ever handle. The American Music scene is alive and well. Some of the best stuff is still coming out and there's hella good stuff for everyone. I've seen more good shows and been turned on to more fresh stuff in the last calendar year than I can remember. Thing is most chuffers don't know where to find it, it ain't on the radio and you may just have to go out and see it live!

Heh heh. I only listen to NPR on the radio. It's sad. In New Orleans we had WTUL which was a true progressive station. It's Tulane's student run radio station and varies from dj to dj. Some are amazing some suck but it's always fun to listen to them bumbling around the studio, leaving mics on, playing records at the wrong speed...

I guess in the really big cities you can still find independent radio stations with real djs. The rest of the country is Clear Channel or its clones. You can hear "FOX ROCKS" anywhere in KY and it's all UTTER SHIT. Or how about "Kiss FM?" It's the same UTTER SHIT no matter where you are. Feh.

It seems I remember hearing that Mountain Radio went under. Is that true?

I can't believe you brought up the Meters! I tell you what, there's a lot of excellent music from young artists in New Orleans. Doesn't seem like anyone even tries to break those acts any more. Rebirth Brass Band, Galactic, James Hall, Kermit Ruffins, and a ton of excellent and unusual bands play all night and make people DANCE. I've been to a few shows here in Louisville and I've quit going because everyone sits on their ass and watches. Stupid white people.

Fer sure. Go to a show, shake your ass. That's the way it works. Galactic's a big favorite but last time I saw them Houseman had stopped touring, sick or something. They had the girl with them then, Latrice? Not so tight with the new lineup but she was pretty fresh, I'm sure they're back on track now. There's a ton of good stuff coming out of GA and NC too.

Radio sucks in Lex. Had one of the best stations I'd ever heard and it got bought up. Christian music now, hurts me in so many ways it's unbearable.

ocassionaly great. always eclectic. When I was commuting from D-ville the speed metal/punk on some mornings got me awake faster than any cup of coffee I ever had.

Thanks to a pre-paid iTunes card, I am filling in a couple holes in my "Angry Music" playlist. Suicidal Tendencies, Godsmack, testament, Anthrax/PE, etc. Pretty cool deal - .99 cents per song, so I can just pick what I want. They don't have every artist that I was looking for (no tool, wtf??), but the selction is pretty cool.
