I'm learning from every route past 11b/c that I need to boulder more.

Michelle, that's a stellar send! Kudos!

Still feeling new to the whole climbing and bouldering and lead climbing thing, I think that climbing in general has taught me a lot more about persistence than any other life experience.

It has forced me to overcome fears, pain, imaginary barriers and a schlew of other hurdles that have even relayed over into my daily life. Bigger than that I suppose is that sometimes you have to fall behind to learn how to get it all right, to finess it. (Then again, given the amount of deja-vu I experience, I think I'm reliving my life...)

Also, although I haven't redpointed Ruby Slipper yet, I was suprised to find that I'm not as scared above a bolt than I thought I would be! Oofta!

King me.

This route taught me three things:
1) Getting in over your head is worth doing once in a while. When I first attempted this route I had not yet sent a 10c. I fell 8 or 9 times.

2) Making concerted effort to get better pays off. I came back to the climb many months later, and in those months I climbed at eden park 2 times a week, and went to the gym once a week. When I came back, I made it all the way to the top.

3) Never get cocky. I sent this climb two and a half years ago. During that two and a half years I got really strong (for me), and was even sending some v4's and 5's, thinking I was quite the badass. THen I took a year off, and started working my way back up. I got back on this thing last weekend and it kicked my butt.

4) Don't ever take a year off!

Oofta? is that one of those things you use in the tub?
Kudos to michelle. I couldn't get past the fourth move on that thing and I was on TR. It is so cool pushing your limits, even if you get spanked, don't quit(unless its too painful) It can be done and you can do it.I am bent on sending something 2 grades harder than my best redpoint, right now.I'll get it becoz I think I can do it.

For me, Those we learn from refer to something different. A couple of years ago, I had a bad lead fall that resulted in a broken foot. Since then, it has been a long road in getting my head right. At one point, I thought of giving climbing up because it wasn't fun anymore, just panic and feeling bad about myself.
Because of people like the trad daddy, I learned to overcome those problems and, for the first time in a long time, I'm looking forward to my next lead. Thanx
