I believe the votes were for state, not federal, constitutions, but I still think most of them will end up in court before long.

If Al Gore ever taught me anything, it's that elections are never over until you admit defeat, twice.

The votes were all for state constitutional amendments. Amending the federal constitution is a complicated process. If portions of state constitutions are deemed violative of the federal constitution in the federal courts, then they are unconstitutional and unenforcable. The federal constitution trumps all state constitutions, laws, regulations, etc.

So in other words these State Constitutional amendments were all a complete and utter waste of time, money, and will waste even more time and money over the next few years? Got to admit it would be awful if we spent that money on cleaning up our neighborhoods or improving schools or something nice like that. Much better to spend it spreading hatred and discrimination.

Pretty much. Assuming that is, that the courts will deem them unconstitutional.

My rather sarcastic remark was about church money. It was churches that funded every last one of those constitutional amendment drives, mostly via the Christian Coalition. Now it'll be us taxpayers that pay for the legal circus that will shortly ensue... and we'll pay for both sides of it! Oh well.

What was that part about loving the sinner...? And that other part about staying the fuck out of politics... ? Oh, that wasn't the Bible, that was our founding fathers. My bad.
