Yikes! You back in June when I was there the water was cold enough that if I'd have dropped a shoe in the drink I'd have just chalked it up as a a loss and call if lobster food. I can't imagine how cold the water must've been as of late. Maybe he should have swam out there to retrieve the shoe while on belay.

The water temperature actually only changes a few degrees winter to summer, but is at it's warmest in september as it has had all summer to get that way. usually around 12 degrees celcius, or about 53/55 F this time of year.

But I agree, I would have left my shoe in the drink. and went to the local pub to have one.

I went climbing at Acadia during July of 1995 and it was quite cold in the water (even at Sand Beach).

my friend dave had to be rescued off of tempest 2 pitches from the top. he was the soloist they were talking about. sent all the a4+r/a5 pitches but got hypothermic at the top.
