WE, as climbers, can try to limit our climbing back there and not go craggin' with a pose to some of the most popular areas in Indian Creek. Crags like Pebble, Pistol, and Purple (the three Ps ?) see quite a bit of traffic and thus see quite a bit of impact. It isn't without good reason as these crags have great climbs that people love to go do...again and again.
As for the yahoos camping out there we as climbers can't stop them. It is their right to use the forest. Streamside, or water side, camping is at a premium in the RRG...well streamside camping that doesn't involve a long hike is at a premium. In talking to Rita at Gladie, I was amazed at how many requests for streamside camping she fields everyweekend. The ease of access to Indian Creek and its East Fork make that place a popular area, which might be why the FS sped up the repairs.
As climbers we can live by expamle out there. Maybe pick up peoples trash, tell them why we are doing it if they ask or look at ya funny. I guess people think there is curbside pick up out there as they seem to leave several bags along the side of the road when they leave for the weekend. Definately dump water on people's unattended, smoldering campfire. I've ferried water from the creek one Nalgene bottle at a time to put out a campfire numberous times. Sure its a pain but the aftermath of the fire would be a bigger one. These are two way to help, I'm sure we could think of others. The Indian Creek drainage is a great big playground, lets hope a bunch of irresponsible campers don't mess it up for the rest of us.
Forest Service Road 9 - update
Just a note. In fact there is a pickup. Use to be every Monday. At the Forest Service request in the past, if you bag it up and set it by the roadside the Garbage Pickup Truck will get it. These instructions applied to the Indian Creek area. There was once a Garbage Bin located at the Wooden Bridge at 9A/9B but is no longer there. Still this too, I have been told, is an acceptable Garbage pickup location.I guess people think there is curbside pick up out there as they seem to leave several bags along the side of the road when they leave for the weekend.

I camped back there Saturday night. The left branch (A?) is open all the way to the end but I didn't go to the right. They've also put up two large garbage bins to the left of the bridge. The washout looks like it was pretty bad. The creeks were up on the road in some places that are easily ten feet above the bed so the Gorge must've been a pretty hairy place during the rain.

The Forest Service did not inform us that any portion of 9A or 9B would continue to be closed when it reopened the main gate to Forest Service Road 9 the evening of September 23. However, Yasmeen has informed me recently that there is in fact a portion of 9B (right of the wooden bridge) that remains blocked. Of course this may have or could change at any time. Anyone visiting the area needs to let us know for sure. At least an update.
