Event at Joseph-Beth Booksellers

Post by Rachel Ray »

Hi!

My name is Rachel Ray, and I'm the Events Coordinator at Joseph-Beth Booksellers. We've got an author signing coming up in January with ice climber David Brill that might be of interest. Please find details about the signing below, and feel free to contact me with any questions!

Monday, January 6th 7:00
David Brill discusses and signs Desire & Ice: Searching for Perspective Atop Denali

What happens when an ordinary person—a middle-aged man with limited mountain-climbing experience—undertakes the extraordinary challenge of scaling the highest peak on the North American continent? The inspiring outcome is recounted in Desire & Ice: Searching for Perspective atop Denali in which Tennessean David Brill describes his unlikely triumph atop Alaska’s 20,320-foot-high Denali, also known as Mount McKinley. Before he could summit the mountain, Brill had to overcome altitude sickness, temperatures that plunged to 40 degrees below zero, a storm that trapped him in his tent for eight days at 14,200 feet, and a close encounter with a crevasse. Far more than just another testosterone-fueled climbing book, Desire & Ice overflows with vivid personalities, unexpected events, and Brill's self-deprecating wit.

Sounds like a pretty cool book! Has anyone out there read it?

Somehow when I First read Denali I knew the story involved being storm bound in a tent above 12,000 feet .I want to know if he is realy good at telling the story.I love reading about mountain climbs. Some authors keep you on the edge of your seat and you cant put it down until you cant keep your eyes open. Is it that good?
