Now THAT is what I'm talking about!
Anytime, and *nearly* anyplace but Hyde Park! (Just kidding. HP is okay, so I hear.)

Hey VA, our offer still stands if you find East Walnut Hills to be too much. We have a spare bedroom.
You had said that it's right next to the Kroger in East Walnut Hills? Please, please, please be careful.
I had a student get mugged there a couple of months ago and I ride the Metro through there a couple times a week. Not a good scene. The drug dealers get on one stop, sell some dope and get off a few stops later, cross the street and catch the bus going the other way to do the same thing. On a positive note, if you get mugged at least there will be hundreds of witnesses! Not that any of them would testify!
But then again, they did find a dead body RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from our apartment last week. A guy shot in the head and left on the sidewalk. Creepy. Crime can happen anywhere. We live on the coolest street, too.
Other than Tony, me, Justin, Coleen, Sam, Tim and Ben, who else lives in Oakley or Hyde Park? We are always looking for rides to the gorge.

My boss, who owned The Buzz Coffeeshop in Clifton right across from UC, has great horror stories about that area...we have story time and I get to hear all of them... One about a guy getting shot...the cop was just inside the building he was in front of...and wouldn't come out bc he was on his lunch break...the guy died in the street bc the cop wouldn't radio it in.

Sorry for caring about you VA...I promise I won't do it again.

Now I will be working in that part of town bc we are moving into that building...I am not looking forward to it...as far as parking and random flying bulletts...which the windows at the Buzz can prove exist.

chester, i pm'd you this but i'll say it again. you really rock! if i find out i'm in over my head you may find me as a gibbering incoherent mass on your doorstep.

thanks for caring llr and i do sincerely appreciate it. (i'm sure you meant your comment sincerely as well).

on an aside, when i was living in chicago, i was on the fringe of humbolt park. i had no problems there at all but the week after i moved out a guy was shot and killed on the corner. oofta.

then again, last spring a body was found decapatated, without any arms or legs, and burned in oxford, oh. a veritable 1950s good town. like you say chester, you have to keep your eyes open.

Walnut Hills by the Kroger's ? ...... Bad idea !!!! I work for the CFD (fire Dept) and run that part of town (Avondale / Evanston / Walnut Hills). That stretch of McMillian / Taft has some of the highest violent crime rates in the city. I sure as heck can't tell you where to live, but from one climber to another, I'd pick somewhere else. Believe me, they would try to eat you alive. The only reason they back off of us in that neighborhood is because we show up with 10-12 guys and some cops. Lots of gangs, lots of drugs, and lots of guns.

I'm not trying to scare you (ok, maybe just a little), but I've seen up close what that part of town has to offer. It's not good and you don't want to hear the stories.

Oakley-OK
Hyde Park-Overpriced
Anywhere North or East of the City-Priceless

P.S. - If anyone is trying to tell you that the Walnut Hills part of McMillian / Taft is near to UC, they're lying their ass off.
The next person that asks me to play "Amazing Grace" again will have a reason for me to play it !!!!!

just avoid Price Hill,Bond Hill,Evanston, and Over the Rhine altogether. There may be a couple more places but I can't think of them. Anywhere west of price hill
north of Northside and east of oakley should be liveable.
