The Friends of Queen Creek Steering Committee is small. We cannot do all the things that need to be done. We need generally responsible folks, who can work together in small projects and regular tasks. We need special expertise in computer graphics and web design.

We have openings on the Friends of Queen Creek Steering Committee for talented, enthusiastic, dedicated, influential individuals who want to help save recreational access to the Queen Creek area. Please email Curt Shannon (curtshannon@mindspring.com) or call 480.419.5735 for more details.

For other info please visit www.friendsofqueencreek.com.
For those who don't know, Oak Flats is the homebase for the Phoenix BoulderBlast. Access is definitely threatened. Anyone who can help, please contact the right people. Thanks!

I spent most of February there this year, what a great place. Good sport, great bouldering, and excellent trad climbing on hundred foot spires. Unfortunatley the defunct town nearby which has a chance to revive itself wants to mine where all the climbing is which would permanently close the area. :cry:

a few notes;

Towns don't mine anything because towns don't have the resources. Enormous corporations, on the other hand, do. I would, however, guess the local population also supports the move as the enormous corporation has no doubt promised employment (albeit short term) for the locals. People love jobs and mining as they are both easy to equate with good ole American maxim of "progress".
