We should have name tags with real name and rrc.com name so we can figure out who is who down there!

Rick,

I have a large tarp (16' X 24') that I will bring down as well. If need be, it can be strung between trees to add additional cover. If rain doesn't happen, all the better.

See you Saturday AM.

Update for the Gathering Trail Day Wed. morn.:

For those attending the Trail Day, please bring lights if you have them, including Coleman lanterns. we have a generator but there are no lights leading back from the picnic area to the parking area. Shouldn't be a problem as this is just 200 feet or less. But, lights would help.

Weather forecasts are still iffy -- very much dependent on Ivan. At this moment, the predicted schedule puts remnants of Ivan in Tenn. Sat. where a cold front moving down through IN and KY at present will hold it there, dumping much rain on Tenn folks but leaving KY drier.

Note that the Gathering is still scheduled for Sat and Sun. The "Wednesday" in the last posting refers to the day of this update.

Rick--how much rain would wash out the GATHERING?
The forecasts I'm seeing aren't even the least bit pretty and I want to work dangit!

GATHERING UPDATE:

The GATHERING Saturday Night barbecue, LIVE bluegrass music, and get-together is ON. It will NOT be cancelled due to huricanes, fire, flood, famine, or swarms of locusts -- and this year in Eastern Kentucky, it seems like we've had all the above. We may be sitting under tents, but we will be there.

So much for the partying. The trail work may be a different matter. A drizzle won't stop most of us. A downpour probably will. If Saturday is a washout, then we will try again Sunday. If Ivan dumps on us both Sat and Sun, then you'll get a tee shirt, plenty of good food, door prizes and our hopes that you will return on a future dry day to help with the trails.

Reminders: If you got 'em, please bring foldinging chairs, flashlights or camp lanterns, and digging tools, such as mattocks, shovels, hoes, etc.

GATHERING UPDATE (posted Thurs morn)

Rain, rain, go away... Looks like it will be pretty wet off and on during the weekend.

However, the event is a solid "go." We'll all make the best of it. Bring your water wings.

We are keeping our fingers crossed on another alternative for the evening meal and music in a local building near Muir Valley and will know by the end of today if this will be a change in the plans. If it doesn't work out, we'll still be under the tents with a nice big warm campfire nearby. Stay tuned for further developments.

Update from Rick and Liz (who are on their way to the gorge):

We just got permission to use the Rogers Elementary School Gymnasium for the festivities Saturday night (which is to start around 6pm). Live music, dinner, door prizes, games and fellowship for that evening is still on.

The trail work will be limited to what the volunteers would be willing to take on as the weather permits. Depending on where you look (NOAA, Weather Channel, Accuweather, etc), it can be really really bad or really good, weather-wise. But party-wise, the forecast haven't changed. It's still a solid go.

Can we have directions to Roger's Elementary School? That's really cool of them to let us use their gym.
