long life bolts by Petzl

Post by haas »

has anyone used these bolts at all? I'm use to bolting with fixe expansion bolts, but a Petzl rep today tried to talk me into using their long life bolts which are pound ins. They do expand, not by tightning with a wrench, but when the central stem is driven in, but the hangers are also not removable, which isn't good when they eventually need to be replaced because you need all new holes. The guy from Petzl says they are better and apparently a lot of places across the country are replacing old bolts with these. I also think they are better suited for hard rock like Granite then Sandstone. Not sure though

Long lifes are not a good bolt for soft sandstone at all. They are made for hard rock like granite

thanks, that's what I thought. The Petzl guy was all about them but I don't think he's ever used them or knows much about the Red's sandstone.
